Newmarket Day Review

Again apologies for the late scratching debacle. the early start played havoc with my automated processes. Thanks to the clients that email me to let me know.

We kicked off the day with our special Hedged winning. I predicted 95 and we got 92, he will only strip fitter next time out.  and  Sangroper Hanchi chased valiantly and has settled into life in the East.

R2 was the Australia Cup Prelude and I stated top pick Young Werther had finally seen the penny drop. He got out to 2000m last time in and won twice with XR's of 104 and 106 so 108/103 here when only 2nd up suggests he has come back perhaps even better..The Australian Cup will be ideal. Fawkner Park ran the best closing splits in the race but was over 3 lengths off the winner. 96/97 was good and he will strip fitter and also be suited by a stepp up in trip I predicted SR 97 for runner up Berkeley Square and we got 98/95 so he is back at best as well.

I marked Legacies well down in the R3 but still had her 2nd pick at $5.80 and was a value $6 winner 88/97 was strong through the line and can go right on with it. Top pick Vivy Air ran the same closing splits when 2nd. She was a 92 horse coming in and 88/97 suggests she has come back well and can take the next step this time in. Groundrush was a good 3rd 86/97 running a career peak at start 6 at first go at the 1400m. Looks to be a genuine improver.

I noted in the morning there was a stack of money for the Godolphin 2yo Traffic Warden in R4 the G2 Sires. 96/87 was weak at the back end but margin was convincing. Runner Up and 88 horse Rue De Royale with 89/83 so right on the money but not thrilled with much out of this.

Imperitriz was our Win bet Bonus Bet style in R5 the G1 Newmarket and she ran a bold 2nd and couldnt match the feats of Black Caviar and carry the big weight. She was gallant rated 112/107 and it  was the 3yo Cylinder with the big weight advantage with only 51.5kg that went to a whole new level. His previous best was 106 when 5th in last years Everest but 117/111 was a huge new peak. Straight track specialist The Astrogolist turned back the clock with 111/104. He was a confirmed SR 106 horse down the straight with a best of 110 so not a complete surprise. Buenas Noches was very disappointing as was Magic Time to my eyes.

R6 was the G2 Kewney at a mile for the Fillies and I suggested that Autumn Angel who we likd first up ina disappointing effort would be a big improver back at Flemington. She ended last campaign with 100/103 ina 2000m G3 win and her 97/106 here 2nd up at a mile suggests she is back in business and can only be further improved over some ground. Top pick and 97 horse Mollyknickers ran 3rd ran a new peak 95/105 and looks to have come back at a new level. Its more often than not the lightly raced horses that catch you out with sudden improvement and that was the case with Basilinna who got to the mile for the first time and ran a career best 96/107 recording the fastest last 400m in the race. All 3 can be followed going forward.

R7 was the G3 Shaftesbury Avenue and top pick Amenable was over bet to my eye starting odds on. he was a confirmed XR 105 horse last time and 116/111 was outstanding.  for 2nd but no match for Von Hauke in 117/114.There were 3 1400m races on the day and he was 1.7 and 1.8 seconds than the other 2. Thats around 10 lengths  faster! They cleared out from Savannah Cloud who ran super for 107/102 matching her previous best of 105/104.

R8 was the G3 Matron for the Mares and our 1 x 3 Gold Miner and 100 horse Foxy Cleopatra ran 3rd despite having the race shape against her. 95/104 was excellent and she clearly ran the best closing splits and there is a race for her soon. We found the tri in our top 4 and there was plenty of money to suggest winner Eternal Flame was ready for the mile this time in, 100/103 was a new peak for her and she can go right on with it. I had runner up Running By a 98 horse going in and 98/101 was a strong showing

Horses to Follow

Groundrush , Autumn Angel, Mollyknickers, Basilinna, Foxy Cleopatra

We head to Caulfield for the All Star Mile next Saturday as the Melbourne starts to wind down a little but hold no fears Sydney is just getting started
