Randwick Review

R4 was the first of the Black type races for the day. The G2 Skyline for the 2yo boys and we had the the Slipper Fav Storm Boy odds on but he was just smashed in the betting starting at $1.18 and he did win easily enough but 94/92 was hardly awe inspiring with that SR 4 down on his SR 98 in the  Magic Millions. We compare his times with Straight Charge whose last 2 SR's have been 103 and 99 but both at 1100m. Mind you still far superior so I am not so sure the Slipper is as clean cut as many think

R6 was the Sweet Embrace at G2 level for the 2yo girls and the Fav Manaal was heavily backed and franked that Lady Of Camelot formline after running 2nd to her first up but 89/83 was well below the boys and franked 89/92 from her first up. SO on this the girls were inferior to the boys today

R7 was the G1 Chipping Norton and again we saw another horse beaten by pure weight of money and that was Fangirl, who we love and who is highly talented. I had her a 114 horse going in and had her odds on but $1.30 was just ridiculous and the bookies cleaned up again as plenty of multis went up in smoke. They didnt go hard at all and she got back to the tail and despite running on strongly 94/98 showed how  far below par she ran. 105 horse Think It Over got the soft run with 98/96. Just Fine led at that slow pace and folded like a deck chair to finish last.

R8 was the G1 Surround for the Fillies and I will be the first to admit I under rated the resuming winner Tropical Squall who won the G1 Flight last time in with an XR 104 and did win first up last time in. Hindsight is always 20/20 as she franked that with 106/106 here. Her ability to get forward and then run time will always hold her in good stead. Runner up Steel Magnetica has blossomed this time in following a career best XR 97 last time out with a career best 105/107 at her first run at 7 furlongs. There is a race for her shortly . The 3rd placed Tutta La Vita also resumed running a career peak 99/104 tells us she is in for her best campaign.  Interestingly the Kimochi- Learning to fly form line folded in on itself  with Learning to Fly 4th with 99/101.

R9 was the G2 Guy Walter for the Mares and when Fav Olentia  came out we were left with 7 runners and NTD and the resuming Hinged as a clear Fav. She looked the winner half way down running but was grabbed by Hell Hath No Fury who relished the return to 1400m. She had one really nice effort when 2nd rating 94/104 4 back in much weaker BM72 grade and 99/104 here franked that. She has obviously come into her own.  The 3rd placed More Secrets was a good 3rd first up rating 92/100 whilst Gold Miner Ausbred Flirt blew the start and left chance there.

R10 was the G3 Liverpool City Cup and the winner Phearson surprised most with a showing of sustained speed. A confirmed 96 horse going in with a best of 99/100 so it was hard to see this display of speed 108/101 was a big peak especially first up. Import New Energy caught the eye getting home super for 2nd 104/106 says follow me. Another to catch the eye was Kovelica who was home 22.6 (clearly best in race) and we know he wants ground so 100/103 first up also suggests in for another quality campaign.
